I recently had the privilege of volunteering my talents as a photographer to document “Tools 4 School,” an annual event put on by Act Together Ministries at Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies were provided to over 500 students from families on tight budgets. The students got to pick out their backpacks and “shop” for the supplies on their lists. It was fantastic to see and hear the excitement from the kids, but even better was the joy and relief that was radiating from the parents.

The kids were not only given supplies to prepare them for the first day of school–haircuts, dental screenings, hearing and vision tests, and lunch were also provided.

This day would not have been possible without all of the generous donations and the people who volunteered their time and energy to put on the event. I am so glad that I was able to contribute in the best way that I know how–with photography. Here are some of my favorite photos.
